Introduction to Systematic Reviews - Part 1

Description:

This 2-hour workshop will help students and researchers new to systematic reviews to go through the basic steps of conducting a systematic review using the PRISMA 2020 Checklist. You will develop a searchable question, search databases, and export results to bibliographic management software. This workshop is suited for beginners of all disciplines.

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify systematic reviews and meta-analysis, how they differ from narrative reviews, and their role in evidence-based practice. Describe the steps in conducting a systematic review using the PRISMA 2020 checklist.
  • Develop a suitable research question and associated eligibility criteria (inclusion and exclusion criteria).
  • Use searching skills in a range of databases to identify research to answer the question. Include iterative searching to refine/expand results, hand searching and searching for grey literature.
  • Manage search results by exporting to bibliographic software e.g. EndNote. We will introduce you to exporting results to Covidence, a systematic review software program that will save you time.
  • There will be time for questions at the end.

You are welcome to register for Introduction to Systematic Reviews - Part 2 on the 24th or 26th February covering the remaining steps of a systematic review: screening, extraction, risk of bias and synthesis. Choose one of the two available workshops:

  • Workshop on the 24th February covers the remaining steps of the systematic review where quantitative data is used in predominantly medicine and health disciplines.
  • Workshop on the 26th February includes instruction on the remaining steps of a systematic review where data is qualitative or includes non-health disciplines such as education, management, business etc.
