Data Management Plan (DMP) Orientation for Graduate Research Students

Description:

New PhD and MPhil students are required to lodge a formal DMP and finalise it in FoRA as part of their confirmation of candidature (CoC). Only ONE overarching DMP per student covering entire PhD project plan as currently known is needed for CoC requirement.

SESSION OVERVIEW:

This session will start with a brief overview of what we mean by data, the importance of good management of research data, and steps in the DMP process. Then we will do a live walk-through completion of a FoRA DMP, focusing on the parts that have raised the most questions from HDR students and/or have caused the data stewards to return DMPs for clarification.

The objective of the orientation is to help attendees:

· Describe their data (even when they think they 'do not have data')

· Understand data sensitivity

· Choose the right data platforms

· Data sharing and dissemination

PREREQUISITES:

New PhD students are required to complete the RDMOnline training unit as part of Graduate Research Induction in iLearn and pass the RDMOnline quiz before drafting their DMPs.

RDMOnline provides foundational training on the principles of good research data management and is highly recommended to ALL Graduate Research students before attending a DMP Orientation.
