2019: Thesis Formatting Workshop (for Mac)

Description:

Formatting long documents with Microsoft Word can sometimes be challenging. This course will give you the right tools to handle large, multi-page documents, such as your thesis.

Participants need to bring their own Mac to the workshop.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

·         Format Long Documents

·         Use Styles

·         Create a Table of Contents and Index

·         Use Outline View

·         Create Master Documents

·         Use Template & Wizards

·         Track Revisions

·         Use Bookmarks, Notes & Comments

·         Edit Page Numbers

Pre-requisite skills

Participants should be competent users of Word and should already be able to:

·         Modify the appearance of text using font formatting

·         Modify the paragraph formatting

·         Change margins and paper orientation

·         Use Print Preview

·         Create and modify headers and footers

Course participants should note that this workshop does not aim to teach specific MQ department/faculty formatting requirements; rather it will equip you with the skills to format large word documents as required. Participants are encouraged to investigate MQ's repository of past theses on Research Online and discuss their specific requirements with their supervisor.

Please note that this event is not catered, so participants will need to make their own arrangements for lunch & tea breaks.

Because this is a very high demand course,  please only register your attendance if you are able to stay all day, 9:30am sharp - 4pm.
*We also strongly recommend that you have the latest version of Microsoft Office (Office 365)  installed on your computer prior to your course date. The latest version is free for MQ students via this wiki site.*

Remember to BYO Mac!
