2022: Publish and Read: Open Access Publishing Agreements Info Session
| Description: |
In recent years, the academic’s aphorism “publish or perish” has been expanded to “publish Open Access or perish.” Whilst the pros of publishing Open Access research merits the push this international movement has received, it has come with confusion about where and how to publish articles open access, and sometimes additional financial costs to the individual researcher via the high Article Processing Charges (APC) from journals/publishers. Enter “Publish and Read Agreements”. Publish and Read (PAR) Agreements are arrangements between scholarly publishers and their users (authors, readers and institutional libraries). They are designed to transform the business model of scholarly publishing by enabling publishers to transition from the traditional subscription-based pay-to-read model to an Open Access publishing model. They accomplish this by bundling payment for publishing and reading into a single fee paid by the library or institution. By entering into these agreements libraries can divert funds from subscription-based read only agreements into open access publishing while institutional authors benefit by having the opportunity to publish Open Access without incurring APC. To find out more about how these agreements work, what specific agreements are in place at MQ, and how you can make use of these agreements, please come along to this online information session run by MQ’s Associate University Librarian Fiona Burton. Fiona will also be joined by Grai Calvey and Heather Cooper, Discipline Group Leaders who will provide an update on some of the Library’s services available for ECRs.
