2021: Absorbing career shocks: A discussion on adaptability and sustainable careers
| Description: | Does a “worked happily ever after” still exist? Not surprisingly the current pandemic has jolted us out of our comfort zones and has led us to discover that career paths do not follow a linear roadmap. Career shocks, “disruptive and extraordinary event[s] that [are], at least to some degree, caused by factors outside the focal individual's control and that triggers a deliberate thought process concerning one's career", can have profound effects on our career trajectory and sustainability.
So, what exactly does research tell us about how we can respond to career shocks? In our final ECR Careers event, career scholars Professor Julia Richardson (Curtin University) and MQBS ECR Representative Dr Laramie Tolentino will take us on a deep-dive discussion on career adaptability and will offer some principles that can help ECRs rebuild confidence to navigate the non-linear roadmap that is our career. This event will be held online via Zoom. Please use this pre-event poll to send through your suggested topics and/or questions ahead of the event. Participants can also join the poll via SMS by texting LT149 to +61427541357.
