2021: Writing for Publication in the Humanities and Human/Social Sciences (2 part workshop series on Zoom)
| Description: | The aim of this two-part workshop is to mentor HDR candidates in preparing, writing and submitting a research paper to a suitable academic journal. It is designed for those in the humanities and social sciences.
In the first class (Tuesday 9 Feb), we will cover some "big picture stuff" - for example, the role of academic publishing, the difference between thesis writing and writing for publication, what journal editors and reviewers look for, how to target and analyse appropriate journals including developing audience/reader awareness.
In the second class (Thursday 11 February), we will build more detail into the process and experience of writing for publication. This session will teach participants to identify the core ingredients of a well-written paper in their own works-in-progress – how to develop a strong argument, coherent structure and storyline, and articulate key contributions to the field. This session will also touch on dealing with reviewers' feedback, as well as maintaining sustainable writing and publishing strategies for the future.
