2021: Humanities Research Writing Basics Course (online)

6-week online writing course for PhD, MPhil & MRes Year 2 candidates researching in a Humanities discipline

This 6-week online course will introduce you to the key principles of strong academic research and writing required in the humanities. The course covers key components of research writing such as developing a persuasive argument, communicating complex concepts, understanding the elements of structure, critically reading and reviewing literature, learning the principles of editing and peer review, and developing a sustainable writing practice.

The course is run as a series of integrated, interactive workshops. Students will be asked to share samples of their writing and do some reading as homework. Upon completing the course, participants are encouraged to join a regular thesis writing group.

Class times: Wednesday 11am-1pm. Zoom details will be provided to registrants prior to the first class.

* Unless pre-arranged with the convenor participants are expected to commit to all 6 weeks of the course.
