2021: SPSS Intermediate Workshop (Zoom)

This SPSS Intermediate workshop will be delivered across two mornings. This course is designed to cover a variety of analyses that can be performed in SPSS. It will begin by covering the role of inferential statistics in quantitative research, and move on to performing a variety of specific analyses via SPSS. Simple course notes will be provided.

Part 1: Wednesday 14 April from 9:15am to 12:45pm

Part 2: Thursday 15 April  from 9:15am to 12:45pm

Please note: You must be able to attend both Part 1 and Part 2 of this workshop. Zoom access instructions will be provided closer to workshop date. 

**Please ensure you have SPSS set up on your own laptop prior to the workshop. This can be accessed via Appstream, and if you encounter any difficulties, please contact the IT Service desk on the Ground Floor of 17 Wally's Walk or by emailing OneHelp@mq.edu.au**

Topics covered will include:

• background to inferential statistics and its relevance
• a review of types of variables and basic univariate statistics
• bivariate graphical displays
• correlation and regression
• t-tests and ANOVA
• Chi-squared test of independence and logistic regression
• A discussion of assumptions and what to do if assumptions are violated (including non-parametric analyses)

Pre-requisites

It is assumed that participants will be familiar with the fundamental aspects of quantitative research methods, and have at least a basic familiarity with SPSS, including:

• how to manually enter and import data
• how to recode and compute variables
• how to perform simple commands (e.g., descriptives, frequency tables, etc.).

Please ensure you have accessed SPSS via Appstream prior to the workshop.
