2020: MQBS HDR academic writing workshops: Making rigorous description and justification of methods

Description:

Specifically focusing on business and economics research subjects, the workshops aim to foster effective understanding of the various elements of a thesis or research article and cultivate writing skills for communicating research ideas at high standards. The workshops will assist you in crafting strong writing skills to thrive on the PhD journey and an academic career awaiting.

Each workshop is comprised of writing skills, illustrative texts from quality journal articles in the field, and discussions. Newly commenced MRes and PhD students are encouraged to enrol in all the workshops for development of a comprehensive know-how in scholarly writing. Or alternatively, you can choose to enrol in workshops on the topics interesting to you.

The workshop addresses the following topics:

  • Explain and justify research design
  • Demonstrate methods’ rigorousness with validity and reliability assessment
  • Describe research procedures including important details

Students who attended previous workshops are also welcomed to attend the workshops this semester, as the materials have been revised at varying levels for better learning outcomes.
