2020: Past and Current Trends in Operations and Supply Chain Management Research

Description:

Speakers:  Professor Thomas Choi, Professor Morgan Swink

Thomas Choi is a Professor of Supply Chain Management at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He leads the study of the upstream side of supply chains, where a buying company interfaces with many suppliers organized in various forms of networks. He has published articles in the Academy of Management Executive, Decision Sciences, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Operations Management, and Production and Operations Management.

Dr. Morgan Swink teaches and leads research in areas of supply chain management, innovation management, project management, and operations strategy.  Dr. Swink’s current research projects address digital transformation, innovation management, servitization, visibility, collaborative integration, and financial impacts of supply management policies.  He was recently ranked among the top ten innovation management scholars in the world,  and among the top 75 most productive operations management scholars.

Professor Swink will present brief findings from a study using bibliometric methods to identify enduring methodological and functional area contributions in OSCM, as well as influential documents in each decade. The analysis further defines primary topic areas represented in the most co-cited documents, while tracing past and current research trends, including bursts in research attention. Professor Choi will present an overview of his research stream and a view of emerging topics in supply chain management.  Both Swink and Choi will comment on current opportunities and challenges in research and publishing, followed by an open discussion with the audience. They both have been an editor for the Journal of Operations Management (UTD24, FT50, and A* in ABDC) and can discuss publishing from the editors’ perspective.
